Brief History

The first London Marathon took place on March 29th, 1981, with over 20,000 people who applied to run. From this pool, only 6,747 were accepted to run the marathon and only 6,255 crossed the Constitution Hill finish line. Since then, the London Marathon has become one of the most popular marathons in the world, with about 50,000 runners hitting the streets of London every year and for a good cause.

The Route

The London Marathon route has largely remained unchanged since the very first race. Over the years, more than a million participants have completed the 26.2-mile course, starting from Blackheath, and finishing at Buckingham Palace. Running a marathon requires countless hours of training and this year, 50,000 brave souls are taking part in the London Marathon on 21st April 2024.

Make the most of your London holiday and do your bit by cheering the runners in this high-spirited marathon event. Start what’s sure to be a memorable day with a sumptuous meal at one of the exquisite restaurants near Finsbury Square and fuel yourself to take in and explore loads of famous spots along the way.
