David Adjaye: Making Memory

Design Museum / Until May 2019

Architecture can be both timeless and stylish – and this new exhibition at the London Design Museum showcases a celebrated architect on fine form. The exhibit looks at Adjaye’s prior, current and future work, as well as exploring the ways we all benefit from living and working in great spaces. With a strong focus on the role of storytelling in architectural terms, this is a way to get closer to a rightfully acclaimed artistic talent while staying at the Montcalm Royal London House.

Swinging London: A Lifestyle Revolution

Fashion & Textile Museum / Until June 2019

London in the 1960s. Just saying the words helps evoke images for all of us – and this exhibition looks at the fashion, design and architecture which shaped the era. The cultural revolution actually began in the 1950s, as this event demonstrates. Key figures such as Mary Quant and Terence Conran pioneered a new youth culture which would continue to permeate society for decades to come.

With items and stories covering the time period between 1952-1977, here you will find everything from fashion to lighting and homewares, including pieces by major artistic talent of the time period. The exhibit takes around an hour to browse, and makes a great addition to your itinerary as you enjoy London city hotel deals.

Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams

V & A / Until June 2019

Christian Dior is a name synonymous with creative, luxurious pieces – and a high-end price tag! This exhibition at the Victoria & Albert Museum pays homage to the work of this fabled designer whilst giving you a carefully curated selection to ogle at. With items spanning from 1947 right up to the present day, the exhibition traces Dior’s career and even provides a window on his love of all-things-English. Expect to find iconic pieces, sketches by the designer and much more when you visit during your stay at Royal London House.

Portmeirion: Pottery Trendsetter

V & A / Until July 2019

It isn’t only clothing where style rules the roost – crafts and homewares can also be every bit as style-conscious. This British-born success story is known for innovative designs which have stood the test of time over the last 60 years, and the brand continues to go strong. Many of the original pieces have not survived, but the V&A has gathered together an impressive selection. Whether you are intrigued by finding out more about a British brand or eager to see great pottery and kitchenware up-close, this is a great exhibit to visit this year - and will continue its current run until the end of July 2019.
