5 Tips to Practice Mindfulness During Your City Visit

Visiting a big city can be exciting and action-packed, but the relentless pace of London life can sometimes be a little much. Mastering a few mindfulness techniques will help you find peace and tranquillity in one of the busiest cities on earth – here are our top tips for keeping your calm on your next visit to London.

Set a Manageable Pace

If you’re visiting London for the first time, it can be tempting to race through every attraction and major sight in a bid to experience it all. This is a very bad idea if you’re prone to stress. Instead of doing this, try and plan out a manageable, flexible itinerary and remain open to changing it if something else crops up. Perhaps you’d planned to go to destination A, but destination B is, on the day, much more appealing. This is not the end of the world. Learning to go with the flow, and at your own pace, will help make the trip more enjoyable during your stay at the hotel Montcalm London City.

Stay Aware of Your Surroundings

Try and really feel each new experience of your trip, and stay aware – and grateful – for everything you see and do during your visit. Developing an attitude of calm alertness is crucial to living in the moment, and a cornerstone of mindfulness practice. It’s also immune to all environments, so you can be just as centred in a crowd as you can be dining peacefully at restaurants near Finsbury Square.

Find a Space to Meditate

You might be surprised to learn there are lots of places in London which can accommodate your desire to meditate. From local green spaces, parks and gardens to your own room at your hotel Montcalm London City, each of these venues can assist you in engaging with your inner self and gaining a little mental clarity. If this sounds like something you’d benefit from, choose an area which suits you and focuses on mindful meditation.

Go People Watching

Just because you’re in a busy city, it doesn’t mean you have to keep up the same pace. You are visiting, after all – many of the people in London are rushing back and forth for work and various commitments, which are a world away during your own stay. Find a calming space and let yourself relax in quiet. Indulge in a little people watching and you’ll soon see that even though London itself is busy, there is no need to constantly dash around.

Give Yourself a Positive Pep-Talk

We can’t always control what happens to us, but we can control the messages we send ourselves. Is your inner voice negative, or positive? It’s important to become your own cheerleader, so give yourself a little positive pep-talk each morning before setting out on your travels. This will set you up for a more cheerful and mindful day of adventure.
