Half Term Ideas for the Family in London

Half term is the perfect time for some family fun. Summer is starting to rear its head, and it’s an opportunity to get everyone together and involved in some activities. But what to do?

If you’re stumped for some ideas, read on for a rundown of some of the best activities and locations to visit on your next half term break in London.

Sensational Butterflies

Taking place at the glorious Natural History Museum, Sensational Butterflies is a celebration of these most beautiful creatures.

With hundreds of domestic and tropical butterfly types on-site, the exhibition is all about teaching kids – and parents, if your butterfly knowledge is lacking – all the wonderful facts about how butterflies live, and showcasing the huge array of sizes and colours they can take.

It’s about half-an-hour on the Tube from Montcalm City Hotel London and the kids will have the chance to hike a jungle trail and learn all about the world of butterflies.

Peter Pan at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre

Peter Pan is a timeless classic about childhood, the power of imagination and fighting pirates, and what better way to enjoy it than in the great outdoors?

This production has received rave reviews and does a great job of recreating the magic of J.M. Barrie’s wonderful book. The open-air staging is a really unique experience and something parents and kids will love.

Via tube, the Regent’s Park location is just over 15-minutes from Montcalm City Hotel London if you’ve gone for one of our London hotels special offers.

The Future Starts Here – Victoria and Albert Museum

Created as a window into the future, this exhibition is all about showing your kids what their future will be like, covering everything from tomorrow’s gadgets to how the human species will generate energy in the future.

There’s a great deal of interaction on offer, so kids and adults alike can get to grips with tomorrow’s technology press buttons, turn cranks and have an interactive experience. The array of technology on show is mind-boggling and it will probably affect how the family views the world of tomorrow. It’s fun, enlightening and only a 30-minute Tube ride from Montcalm City Hotel London.

The British Museum

One of the best museums in the world, it’s entirely possible to pass multiple days looking through everything on offer at The British Museum. But, if you don’t have that long, there are some key points to hit to keep the kids happy.

The Egyptian exhibits are a must. Here you can find one of the most extensive and fascinating collections of artefacts and, of course, mummies, anywhere in the world. This area of the museum is one of the most popular, and with good reason. It offers an amazingly detailed look back into ancient history and one of the most fascinating cultures to ever grace our planet. You’re just half-an-hour away via Tube if you’re staying with us!
