The Most Interesting Things You Can See at the V&A Right Now

The V&A has long been one of London’s most intriguing destinations for fans of design, and it houses Europe’s finest collection of design-led artefacts. Whether you are in to fashion, interior design or textiles, the museum offers ample exhibits to delight and enthral. Here’s our guide to the most impressive things to see right now...

Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams

Until 14th July 2019

Christian Dior is one of the world’s most renowned designers – he is also a noted Anglophile who has woven various English influences into his work, and sought to dress some of the country’s biggest stars. This exhibition will provide plenty of inspiration for aspiring designers themselves, as well as giving you the chance to see classic designs, sketches and other key fashion artefacts. For guests staying at the Montcalm Royal London House, this is a fabulously lavish exhibit.

Maqdala 1869

Until 30th June 2019

This display features remarkable pieces from an Ethiopian fortress which was besieged in 1868. The treasures are accompanied by information about their complex history, including the tale of their development and acquisition by the museum. If you are enjoying one of our London hotel packages and want to see some truly beautiful items, then this is a great exhibition to try.

Portmeirion: Pottery Trendsetter

Until 28th July 2019

Pottery is often a remarkable testament to the era in which it was created, and the work of British brand Portmeirion is certainly no exception. In the last 60 years the brand has crafted pieces which are examples of unrivalled artistry and complexity, and this exhibition has compiled some of the most incredible pieces made by the brand through the decades.

Collecting Photography: From Daguerreotype to Digital

Until 4th September 2020

Photography has come a long way since it was invented in the 1830s, helping to transform the way we see the world forever. This exhibition takes a look at this development, from the early and complex days of processing photographs through to the digital age, where photos are often throwaway and commonplace. There are photos gathered from individuals and institutions, charting the process of crafting great photos from start to finish. During your stay at the Montcalm Royal London, you can perhaps even learn more about the influences which inspire your own holiday snapshots.

Rachel Kneebone at the V&A

Until 14th Jan 2021

The themes explored in Rachel Kneebone’s porcelain sculptures are universal, as well as capturing a certain fluidity and sense of movement which have become her trademark. Porcelain sculpture ‘399 is amongst the pieces on display, and Kneebone’s work is at once both contemporary and classical, earning its place amidst a collection with strong medieval influences. This exhibit will be open every day until January 2021, providing plenty of time to see the high level of detail for yourself. Whether you are an art fan or simply eager to see a sculptor in her prime, this is a fantastic way to do both.
