Who is the artist?

Sir David Adjaye OBE was born in Tanzania to parents from Ghana, and first delved into an artistic career after moving to the UK. His influences span everything from science through to contemporary art and African art and design, and he was educated in architecture at London South Bank University and the Royal College of Art.

Adjaye first established his office in 1994, which soon became Adjaye Associates. Building a name for himself as the designer of remarkable houses for a discerning clientele of low-profile big names and artists, he also worked on a number of noted public buildings, including the Stephen Lawrence Centre and Idea Stores.

How did the exhibition develop?

Since the early '90s, Adjaye has developed a well-earned reputation as one of the best architects in the country, and has a strong portfolio to match.
