Neighbourhood Guide – Shepherd’s Bush

The area of Shepherd’s Bush in London is a thriving multi-cultural neighbourhood packed full of commercial and residential properties, making it a melting pot of different cultures.

This has led to the area enjoying a great vibe with its busy streets packed full of wonderful cuisines, delicious aromas and colourful shop window displays.

There’s so much to see and do in Shepherd’s Bush, so we’ve created a shortlist of the places well worth a visit when you stay at our Montcalm Royal London House hotel and fancy venturing out to this bustling and bright area of London.

The O2 Arena

A state-of-the-art performance and exhibition space, the O2 arena was finally completed in 2007 and is also known locally as ‘The Dome’ due to its shape.

Hosting a wide range of events including concerts, exhibitions, several restaurants and bars plus a huge internal Cineworld complex showing all mainstream blockbusters and Bollywood classics, the O2 arena is a constant hub of activity.

For the adrenaline junkies amongst us, you can take part in the O2 roof climb during the day or at sunset. This personal challenge isn’t for the fainthearted and takes 90 minutes, so you might need a stiff drink at the Long Arm pub Montcalm before you set off!

You can reach the arena by Tube from the Montcalm Royal London House hotel in just thirty minutes, which should be just enough time to settle your nerves!

Shepherd’s Bush Markets

If you’ve got an eye for a bargain or just want to take a little piece of London home with you, then Shepherd’s Bush Markets is a great place to spend a few hours wandering the various stalls.

Open Monday to Saturday between 9am and 6pm, you’ll find everything from falafel to fabrics on offer, so shop ‘til you drop before taking a well-earned lunch break at the rooftop Aviary Montcalm for some sensational food and breath-taking views while you appraise your purchases and rest your feet.

Cafes and cocktails

As Shepherd’s Bush is a hotbed of different cultures, you’ll find everything from Turkish tea houses to shisha cafes and more lining the streets.

It's also the perfect place to grab a cheeky lunch time cocktail along with the local office workers who flock to the area's bars and restaurants for a bite to eat and drink before returning to their desks.

If you prefer a more laid back or traditional atmosphere, then a quick Tube ride back to the Long Arm pub Montcalm can offer a respite from the hustle and bustle or a serene long-lunch overlooking the London Skyline at the Aviary Montcalm could be more to your taste.

So whether you’re a thrill seeker looking to try something new, or a serial shopper with an eye for a bargain, then Shepherd’s Bush is a great place to take in the vibrant atmosphere, sounds and sights of this cosmopolitan part of London.
