Top things to do at Hackney City Farm

As the biggest and busiest city in the UK, London isn’t somewhere that most people associate with nature. However, there are plenty of places like Hackney Farm where you can escape the streets and get closer to nature.

If you’re planning a trip to the Montcalm London, a trip to Hackney Farm is a great alternative to some of the big tourist attractions. If you’re travelling with kids, don’t forget to check out our London City hotel deals so you can spend a day on the farm and enjoy some of these fun activities.

Feed the pigs

Two ginger Tamworth pigs named Pepper and Pearl are some of the most popular residents of Hackney Farm. Introduce your little ones to these little pigs and let them treat them with some snacks. You will also get a chance to learn more about the activities of pigs and how they interact with other animals.

See the donkeys

Larry and Clover have lived at Hackney Farm for years and are always funny to watch. Whether they’re on the search for food or rolling around the grass, they’re great at entertaining visitors. Larry the donkey is somewhat of a celebrity. He’s appeared on the BBC and stars in the Westminster nativity parade every year. Be sure to stop by the donkey enclosure on your visit.

Jumble sale

Every once in a while, Hackney Farm invites people from all over the city to come together for a day of trade. From antique paintings to tech gadgets, you can often find many hidden treasures on the stalls at Hackney Farm. If you like shopping and you want to help raise some money for the animals on the farm, this is a great way to lend a hand and potentially bag a bargain.

Pottery classes

Hackney Farm offers regular pottery classes for adults and children. This is a great way to learn a new skill and have fun at the same time. From dishes to mugs, you will learn how to craft all sorts of wonderful things and can add your own personal touch by painting them. The farm has a team of residential potters that will show you all of the techniques you need to create your own works of art.

Visit the birds

The farm is home to a whole range of birds that your kids will love watching as they run around and chase each other across the grass. You can find all different breeds of chicken, three geese named Gabe, Abigail and Dorothy, and an army of free-range ducks that can be found all over the farm and pond.

Vegetable boxes

Trying to find fresh, organic vegetables in today’s market can be quite difficult, especially if you’re shopping on a budget. Hackney Farm organisers have developed a wonderful solution. The scheme promotes the growth of fresh veg within the local community and provides visitors with a chance to buy fresh produce that they can’t get anywhere else.
