Exploring Finsbury Park: What to Do

As one of London’s nicest boroughs, there is no shortage of things to see and do in Finsbury Park.

Whatever your tastes, your base at The Montcalm Royal London House puts you in a perfect position to explore everything this beautiful area has to offer. And you may find yourself pleasantly surprised at just what you can do in such a central part of London. So, without further ado, let’s jump in.

Alexandra Palace Ice Rink

Skating is always a great, festive activity, but you don’t have to wait that long to take to the ice. The Alexandra Palace Ice Rink is open all year round, so there’s no need to wait until Christmas.

The beautiful surrounds of Alexandra Palace make ice skating there a total delight, and it’s a great, very different way to spend a summer’s day. Only a 20-minute journey from The Montcalm Royal London House, you’re ideally placed to make use of London’s only year-round ice rink.

And if you expend all your energy on the ice, there’s a café on site so you can replenish your reserves. Ice skating at the Alexandra Palace is a great way to spend a couple of hours and something unique that you won’t soon forget.

West Reservoir Centre

To take part in some fantastic water sports, you might assume you need to be in a leafy locale somewhere out in the country. Well, West Reservoir Centre offers just this, and it’s only a short hop from your Montcalm hotel Finsbury Square.

Once a disused reservoir, the site is now a buzzing place full of kayaks, sailboats and open water swimmers. Covering a full 30-acres, West Reservoir Centre gives you the opportunity to get on, or in, the water and it’s all right next to Finsbury Park.

Whether you’re a total newbie when it comes to the water or an experienced sailor, West Reservoir centre provides sailing, kayaking/canoeing and open water swimming facilities. Fully trained and accredited, the staff are super helpful. West Reservoir Centre is a place of tranquillity amidst the city and an enjoyable, memorable day out.

Clissold Park

London is dotted with famous parks – Hyde, Primrose Hill and Kensington Gardens, to name a few. Clissold Park isn’t one of the most well-known. But this is only to the benefit of the park, as it enjoys a quiet reputation as one of the most tranquil and pastoral green spaces anywhere in the capital. Plus, it’s just a 20-minute journey from your Montcalm hotel Finsbury Square.

You might feel like you’re in the home counties more than London, as the park is a stunning mix of woodland and open space. And you might even have a close encounter with some of the deer that call Clissold Park home.

Animals have been at the site for more than a century, and there are exotic birds, goats and chickens lurking about the place. It’s a beautiful, relaxing spot and more than worth the short journey to see it.
