What’s On at the Museum of London This Month

Visitors from all over the world flock to the Museum of London every year, and with good reason!

Votes for Women

As 2018 is the centenary of the 1918 Representation of the People Act, The Museum of London has created a special Votes for Woman exhibition as part of a nationwide programme of events.

Visitors staying at our Montcalm hotels can visit the Votes for Women exhibition up until the 6^th January 2019 and can view iconic objects from the Museum’s vast Suffragette collection, including Emmeline Pankhurst’s hunger strike medal.

There’s also a powerful commissioned film discussing the militant campaign lead by the Suffragettes that divided opinion and ultimately led to the vote being given to women.

Slavery, culture & collecting

Available until 15^th September 2019, this thought-provoking and challenging display will discuss how the west perpetrated slavery and how some of the nation's oldest establishments had ties to the slave economy.

The exhibition features a range of objects and films to create a wider debate around the subject of slavery and certainly shouldn't be missed during your stay at our hotels in Shoreditch.

Santa's Victorian grotto

If you're bringing the little ones for a break at our Montcalm hotels in London during the festive season, then Santa’s Victorian Grotto is a display that you won’t want to miss!

Open from the 1^st until the 23^rd of December 2018, the Museum of London is encouraging families to get into the festive spirit with a wonderland stroll through the decorated Victorian Walk and a visit to Santa.

Bookings for Santa’s Victorian Grotto must be made in advance, but after telling Santa their Christmas wish-list each child will receive a gift from Mr Claus, making it a perfect family activity in the run up to Christmas.

Create your own holiday decorations

Keeping with the Christmas theme, the Museum of London is combining the festive season and history with a workshop where families can create their own wartime Christmas decoration and learn more about how people celebrated the festive period during the war.

Visitors can get hands-on to create their very own wartime Christmas decoration that they can then take home as a memento of their visit to the Museum of London. Each workshop lasts an hour and a half, so it’s the perfect activity for little ones visiting the museum or for crafty adults that wish to experience a little taste of Christmas celebrations as they were during the Second World War.
