The Barbican was built to help transform an area destroyed during the blitz in World War II and is a building that’s difficult to miss!

Designed and built in a brutalist style, the Barbican plays host to a wide range of musical, performance and cultural events throughout the year that are popular with Londoners and tourists alike.

There’s plenty to keep you entertained at the Barbican this October, so check out just what’s on offer at a venue that’s divided opinion due to its looks.

International Soloists

What this large concrete building lacks in beauty it certainly more than makes up for in acoustics, so it’s the perfect venue to see some of the world’s best soloists.

From superstar singers, guitarists and acoustic trios, the Barbican will come alive with the sound of classical and contemporary music this October with a vast range of international soloists gracing the stage.

You can reach the Barbican on foot in less than ten minutes from our Montcalm Royal London hotel, and there’s plenty of Finsbury Square bars that are well worth a visit after the performance is over.

Lunchtime Concerts

What better way to spend a chilly autumn afternoon than an afternoon of classical music. The Barbican will be hosting a range of afternoon concerts up until June 2019 in association with BBC Radio Three.

Featuring orchestras and soloists from all over Europe, the concerts start at 1 pm, giving you plenty of time to enjoy the facilities and leisurely breakfast at our Montcalm Royal London hotel.

Why not enjoy a morning of pampering at our Montcalm Royal House Spa beforehand and arrive at the venue refreshed and ready to enjoy the performance?

Darbar Festival 2018

If you’re lucky enough to be staying at our Montcalm Royal House Spa hotel between the 25th and 28th of October 2018 and want to try something a little different, then the Darbar classical Indian music festival is a true delight for music lovers!

With masterful vocals and music to thrill and inspire, these uplifting performances are not to be missed, so make a night of it and try the fantastic range of pre-performance food and drinks at one of the fantastic Finsbury Square bars before heading to the Barbican ticket office.

Academy of Ancient Music

Take a musical journey through time during your stay at our Montcalm Royal London hotel and catch one of the many performances from the Academy of Ancient Music who will be in town from the 2nd of October until summer 2019.

Featuring music of the Baroque period through to Mozart and his earlier influences, expect to see some of the world’s most famous orchestras and soloists at this celebration of music throughout the ages.

Violins, clarinets and cellos all feature in the schedule from the Academy of Ancient Music, so there’s certain to be a performance that you simply have to see during your stay in the capital city this month.
